Welcome to a whole new concept in free Discussion Forums!
Here on TGAF, not only can you join in the chat related to your art or craft, but you can also access a wealth of well researched & constantly updated material on the subject as well.  The NavBar on the left leads both to the discussion boards, and to our permanent  “Knowledge Pages”, which include Glossaries, Tutorials, Technical Libraries, pages & pages of informative links, links to both  members & professionals websites & albums…and a whole lot more.  So, take a look around, register and join in.  There’s a lot to see and it’s growing all the time.  Tell your friends and invite them over to chat, share, contribute & learn.  Together, we can grow this site into the kind of forum we’ve all been waiting and hoping for.

Summer Classes
Faux Bois Sculpting Courses for 2010
At last I can reveal the locations for this years Faux Bois classes. The first round will be in Bell Buckle, Tennessee hosted by none other than the Garden Art Goddess herself...Sherri Warner Hunter! I can't begin to tell you how much I am looking forward to meeting & working with her.

The second round will once again be in Montrose, Colorado with my good friend and tireless educator, Paul Sarnstrom of the non-profit Ferrocement Educational Network.

At both locations I will be teaching an "Introduction to Faux Bois" course...PLUS...a new "Advanced Class" that for the first time in history reveals the secrets of working with the amazing Neat Portland Paste formulations that only the masters of the craft have ever successfully employed. This is the mix that permits detailing on virtually the same level as sculpting clay!

For all the dates, details and registration links, take a look at the little site I have put together here...

Hope to see some of you there!

Great Book About Dionicio Rodriguez's Faux Bois Work & Life
Hello All. Just in case you haven't heard about it, Patsy Pittman Light has a book out on the life & work of master Faux Bois craftsman Dionicio Rodriguez.  He was the great uncle of my friend and colleague Carlos Cortes who created an amazing body of work from about 1920 up to the mid '50's.  Patsy spent over ten years researching this book and it covers not only his projects in San Antonio, Texas, but all across the US including many that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  You can find it on Amazon via the link below and it is a "must read" for any fans of Faux Bois and El Trabajo Rustico.

Faux Bois & Trabajo Rustico in San Antonio, Texas
Take a look at what will soon become the most complete photographic record anywhere of San Antonio's amazing collection of this remarkable art form.  For the uninitiated, Faux Bois & El Trabajo Rustico are two very nearly lost schools of art that interpret the look, texture and form of ancient, weathered wood and wooden objects in hand sculpted cement.  The images and documentation covers public & private works created from the 1920's to the present day by a handful of highly skilled artisans.

Faux Bois on HGTV!
When the good folks at HGTV asked me to let them film how a Faux Bois table is made for their TV show  "That's Clever"..how could I say no?  Here is a "sneak peek" at some of the steps involved, as well as the "Hero" (which I learned is TV talk for the finished item).  This episode finally aired in June or July of 2009.

TGAF Members Gallery
We have more than a few highly creative folks here on TGAF.  And many of the projects they have completed deserve a place where everyone can enjoy and be inspired by them far beyond the lifespan of the forum.  We are therefore happy to announce a new permanent feature...The TGAF Members Gallery.  Take a look at what some of these folks have managed to accomplish with a few basic materials...and a whole lot of talent.
