Anne --- A Warning...you may well find yourself tracking down other books by this author. He is one of those very rare (and envied) writers who make it look easy. And given some of the topics he tackled in that book and others...I know for a fact it was not.

Example..."A Short History of Nearly Everything". The title says it all. Except for how well he presents and makes understandable and enjoyable so many deep subjects.

I received the book. Thank you, Anne!

I have wanted to try sandcasting. Always worried about sand shifting. Wink

It definitely looks interesting.

I just have to ask...is everyone adding their comments, thoughts, doodles or whatever to the book as it goes round?

Glad ya got the book Jean

I think I did a couple margin doodles......

one said "CLAY!!!"

That's what they mix with the sand so it doesn't crumble/shifting/fall apart

Jynja's comment echoes what I think about the processes written and diagrammed in the book -- "thank heavens for modern technology!" Surprised

Some of it seems likes reinventing the wheel, that there are simpler steps to reach the same end. But it is very interesting -- like the concept of molds in sections, you could make a piece long or shorter as you wanted.

I wonder if I can get my name on the mailing list for the traveling book. No urgency... just want to get in line.
Thx,
Xtal

I plan to send the traveling book on its way the middle of next week -- now, the question -- who's on first?

(Sounds like an old Abbott & Costello routine.)

I read back through the posts, and also according to comments written in the book, these people have had it:

Tango got the book and sent it to Jynja
Jynja sent it to Dena
Dena sent it to Lisa
Lisa sent it to Aartwmich
Aartwmich sent it to me (Jean)

Elder was on standby and Babushka and Xtal have requested it.

Looks like Babushka is next unless there are reasons to rearrange.

I've finished reading the book and found it very interesting.
I find it amazing how the same results can be achieved with low tech and without use of modern materials. It's great that this info is getting reprinted and made available to people who are interested in it.
Since I only make things for my own use, I am always interested it low tech methods and supplies that can be obtained in regular stores. I certainly found a couple things I can use in this book - mixing sand with clay t make mold more durable, adding armature to sand mold to help it retain its shape, sprinkling mold surface with finishing material to be bonded with crete when it's poured in. Most of them seem so simple when I read them, yet, never occurred to me on my own.
Great to see forum membersí comments.
I think Elder is next in line for the book.
Can somebody double check me, please?

Hi Kate --- Since no one has responded, you might try sending Elder a Private Message. I believe he is "on the road" teaching but checks in here from time to time. If you don't hear from him in the next week or so, feel free to post a note on the general forum to see who else might be interested.

Just checking in to see where the Traveling Book is these days. Is it still with Xtal or has it moved on since June?

Crying or Very sad
Hey, all y'all, Tango done gone and flung a gif' at all us fo'k, cleverly dis-guys'd as a book![/u] but aw-hail, ah sees a rollin' Valentine, sho'nuff, meant to spread whut usn's in Hawai'i - "Hay-Why-Yee" (fuh sumfo'k)u - sez is ALOHA!

Oops, sorry, I got solar flare effect there - Two smacks on my knuckles with the ruler by the Mother Superior - OWW! I have an idea, [warning, fuse is lit, get away quick!], why don't those of us who would really like to read this little "token" [vs] ask -politely, of course - that Crystal please send the A.A. Houghton book BACK TO TANGO ?? I think Don, as its rightful owner, should then pass it on to the person he thinks would like to read it, asking them to add a bon mot or other notation, and then promptly send it along to another member, perhaps using a list that I suggest be made by Don, to acknowledge the passage of prior wisdom to us all. Gee, it's not even Sunday and I start sermonizing! Sorry, I apologize to Don and his merry band of Moderators, but I just would like to revi ve this tangible link for the group.
Aloha kakou [love to all y'all]
